This is a now page — not a blog, not a résumé, just what has my attention at the moment. It goes stale on purpose; the date above is the honest part.
Teaching a machine to build my lab
The bulk of it. I direct AI agents to build and maintain the home lab, and the interesting problem turns out not to be getting them to write code — they will write anything you ask, instantly, with total confidence. It is getting the environment to disagree with them: test suites that have been proven capable of failing, hooks that refuse a bad edit before it lands, checks that re-run everything somewhere else. The agents got good faster than my ability to review them by eye, so the review had to stop being done by eye.
Building this site
Which is where you are. It is being fleshed out a section at a time, and each section is a small argument with myself about what is worth saying under my own name. The Colophon covers how it is put together and what stops it from saying something it shouldn’t.
Studying for the CISM
The management-side certification. It is mostly a matter of converting reflex into vocabulary that a person holding a budget will recognise, which is a stranger exercise than it sounds — a lot of it is learning the formal name for something I already do on a Tuesday.
Running, mostly outdoors
A few times a week, no treadmill. It is the only part of the week with no screen in it, and it is not a coincidence that it is where the good ideas show up.
